Hebrew was not the language spoken in Israel during the time of Yeshua. They spoke Aramaic. In an attempt to immerse the reader into the culture I have chosen to use Hebrew words since they are more familiar in our modern times.

Old Testament Verses Use Within Text
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

*Many versions use Bethlehem Ephrathah rather than You Bethlehem, land of Judah.
A voice was heard in Ramah, a lament with bitter weeping—Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted for her children because they are no more.

You are a stubborn and stiff-necked people
There are many verses in the Old Testament in which Hashem uses this phrase. Not only did it characterize the Israelites in ancient times, but it often describes us today.
What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me? says Yahweh.
I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams,
And the fat of fed animals.
I don't delight in the blood of bulls,
Or of lambs,
Or of male goats.
When you come to appear before me,
Who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts?
Bring no more vain offerings.
Incense is an abomination to me;
New moons, Sabbaths, and convocations:
I can't bear with evil assemblies.
My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts;
They are a burden to me.
I am weary of bearing them.
When Israel was a young man, I loved him like a son, and I summoned my son out of Egypt.
You will conceive a son and he will be called a Nazarene.
Galilee of the Gentiles who are in the darkness will see a great light.
Certainly Yahweh does not forsake his people; he does not abandon the nation that belongs to him. For justice will prevail, and all the morally upright will be vindicated. Who will rise up to defend me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against the evildoers?
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
The law of their God controls their thinking; their feet do not slip.
In my heart I store up your words, so I might not sin against you.
You despise all who stray from your statutes, for they are deceptive and unreliable.
I want to do what pleases you, my God. Your law dominates my thoughts.
Tell the people of Israel, Don't be afraid, people of Jerusalem. Look, your King is coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey's colt
He protects all his bones; not one of them is broken.
Everyone rejects God; they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one!
For as heaven is higher than earth, so My ways are higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
