What should I pray for concerning myself? This is something I struggle with. Asking for something for myself has always been a problem for me. I have been so blessed in my life that asking for something seems ungrateful for what God has lavished on me. So what do I pray for? I have prayed for wisdom and God has graciously been increasing my understanding of the Word and thus of Him. I know that this understanding and thus wisdom will increase as time goes on. I am grateful for Her (the Spirit’s) faithfulness in this. In reading Deuteronomy 17:14-20, the instructions for a king, I realized that although Solomon was the wisest person who ever lived he still veered off God’s path and was disobedient. This is when I came to realize what I should pray for. I think that the greatest thing for me to pray for concerning myself is for an obedient heart. As evidenced in Solomon’s life having wisdom is not enough. Unless we have a heart which is on fire to obey God, all the wisdom of the universe is just so much fluff. Only through being obedient to God can we use any wisdom we may gain in a way that is pleasing to God. So I know know what to pray for. I am sure God will answer with a resounding “yes” to this request. He wants us to obey and since the Lord is always prevenient even the spirit of obedience must come from Him before we even realize it. Thank you, Lord, for this revelation for me. Ezek 36:26-27 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will place My Spirit within you and cause you to follow My statutes and carefully observe My ordinances.
